Matt Brown - Musical Director
Matt began playing the trombone at the age of 10 playing with most of the brass bands in his home city of Portsmouth. He joined the Army as a musician when only 16 and despite being told “you won’t last 6 months” managed to complete a very successful career for 24 years. His military service saw him being selected for the prestigious Bandmaster course at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, and served as Bandmaster to the Band of The Dragoon Guards, ending his career in Swanton Morley, Norfolk. Matt has visited many parts of the world and his highlights include Jordan (accompanying the Queen), Pakistan, Hong Kong and Berlin (before the wall came down). He also served during the Gulf war conflicts of 1991 and 2003.
Matt has embarked on a new career as a teacher and is Head of Music at Hellesdon High School in Norwich. He has played with most of the orchestras in East Anglia and is currently principle trombone of the Norwich Pops Orchestra. More recently he has turned his hand to the theatre making his debut as Musical Director for Dereham Operatic Society’s very successful performance of Mack and Mabel and is looking forward to working with NNOS on this exciting musical.
