Chairman Committee Friends Trust Fund Threshold History

As newly appointed Chairman of the Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society – more commonly known as NNOS – it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website.  Having been elected as Chairman on 1st September 2009 I find myself at the helm of a very successful Society. There are, in my view, five things that have made this Society successful -
Firstly, we have a great amount of amateur talent in Norwich and Norfolk and pride ourselves on providing a platform for the very best available to entertain you all each year. These people form the core of our membership.
We are fortunate in having the Theatre Royal as our performance venue. This leading provincial theatre has been our home since 1925 and we are proud of our association.
I am very fortunate in having a very strong, dedicated Committee to ensure that each production reaches you, the audience, in the most professional manner possible.
Our Society is proud of Norwich and Norfolk and in particular the strength of the Norwich theatre going public, and in our regular supporters, without whom we would not have a Society.
The fifth thing we have had is the strength, commitment and professionalism of our former Chairman, Coral Newell, who has led the society for the past 17 years to the enviable position it is at today.

Thank you Coral and thank you Norwich and Norfolk.

The NNOS was established in 1925 with donations of £45 to allow it to put on it’s first production - Dorothy. Since then we have managed to produce 78 shows mostly at the Theatre Royal, Norwich. I am very pleased that in the Society’s 85th year we will be producing our 79th show - “The Producers” , a show that will stretch the society both artistically and financially. The high, professional standard that we strive to achieve in all our productions will be shown to it’s very best in this show with great comedy, acting, singing and some fabulous dance numbers. More details about this show are on the website.

We are continuing many of the Society’s original aims – to employ a professional director, Musical Director and a professional orchestra and we continue to support local charities each year. In the past financial year I am pleased that we have made donations totalling £5785 in the form of burseries to Norfolk Students for summer schools, support for other Operatic and Dramatic Societies, our own Norfolk and Norwich Trust Fund and direct donations to local Charities.

Under my Chairmanship I intend to meet the challenge of Coral’s extremely high standards and aim to continue the growth of the Society both artistically and financially.

Thank you for your support
