Code of Conduct for rehearsals

The Society has gained a reputation over many years for producing wonderful shows which are the envy of many other societies. This success has not been achieved by talent alone but by a number of factors - not the least of which is discipline.

It is in everyone’s best interests that in order to maintain the high standards expected of its members, a code of conduct has been formulated some of which is also built into the Society’s Health & Safety Code of Practice. It is expected that all members will comply with these simple but necessary measures at all times.

1. Regular attendance is essential - (please read Paragraph 12 in Rule-book)

2. Punctuality is also essential to avoid disruptions.

3. All mobile phones should be switched off and members should refrain from the practice of sending & receiving phone & text messages throughout the rehearsal period.

4. In the interests of safety all jewellery such as rings, bracelets, anklets, dropped earrings and watches should be removed for the duration of the rehearsal period. Wedding rings & sleeper studs in pierced ears are permissible. During show week only jewellery designated by the Director may be worn on stage.

5. The stated clothing & footwear as requested by the Director must be worn - especially for dancing & movement. Wearing different footwear or certain items of clothing can prove to be hazardous if you are not used to wearing them (e.g. ladies long dresses or men’s cowboy boots) and it is imperative that you get used to them during rehearsals. Everyday outdoor boots and trainers are not acceptable unless required as a particular item of clothing for a specific role.

6. When not ‘on the floor’, please refrain from holding noisy conversations in the rehearsal hall. Remember that talking & laughing is not only disruptive, it is also very annoying to other cast members around you who are concentrating on what they are doing or are about to do.

7. When outside of the rehearsal hall keep noise levels down as it carries into the hall which can be very disturbing.

8. At the end of rehearsals please ensure that you remove all of your belongings - especially when changes of clothing are required at a particular rehearsal and you have brought extra clothing with you.

9. Take particular attention with your books & scores. Write your name inside the cover using a soft (B grade) pencil & use a separate notebook for your notes & directions. If it is necessary to make a note directly into your books use a soft pencil which must be erased by you before the books are returned. Failure to do so will result in your cheque being cashed by the Society.

10. Ensure that you are aware of the Society’s Health & Safety Policy Document and refer to it at all times - especially with regard to Fire Drill & Fire Prevention.
